I am starting a series of paintings from my recent trip to Greece. We stayed in Nafplio on the Pelopennese.
The city of Nafplio was the first capital of the modern Greek state. Named after Nafplios, son of Poseidon, and home of Palamidis, their local hero of the Trojan war and supposedly the inventor of weights and measures, lighthouses, the first Greek alphabet and the father of the Sophists.
Here is my first small warm up study. I loved the colorful boats against the blue sea.
In August I will be participating in the Montana Land Reliance Fifth Biennial "Artists of Open Spaces" Exhibition and Sale
July 26, 2007 - August 10, 2007
On the auction night I will be participating in the quick draw auction in addition to the silent auction. The image you see here is open for bidding and can be bid bly going to: http://www.sacreddancinggallery.com and click on the events page.
I am excited to have been invited to be part of this exciting and important event.
This summer Sacred Dancing Gallery is proud to exhibit the works of 92 exciting artists from throughout the west as a benefit for the Montana Land Reliance.
On August 10th, an auction will be held at the gorgeous Flathead Lake Lodge, only 3 miles from the Gallery. The Artwork Exhibition at the Gallery, is open to the public for review prior to the auction. Absentee bids for any of the displayed artwork will be accepted through our CONTACT tab. Collectors visiting the Exhibition prior to the auction, who cannot attend the auction, can submit bids through the Gallery.
Here are pictures showing my latest work of some poppies I have painted from a photo that I shot at Delphi while in Greece last month.
I have the beginning of the painting process followed by the finished work.
It is 24"x30" and I rendered the foreground and background in brushwork and the flowers with a palette knife. This creates a soft background for the more textured flowers to stand out on.
